Listen to the voice of the man recorded in this New York Times audio slideshow, “Social Worker with a Camera” by Sandra C. Roa. His monologue is like jazz; The intensity gushes and recedes; the sounds move from gritty to sweet; there’s staccato, silence, and some easy verbal riff. The tenor of his voice conveys even more meaning than the words alone do.
